History of the Goose Festival
The Fennville Goose Festival in Fennville, Michigan, has been an annual tradition in the community since 1985. The festival is a celebration of the winter migration of Canada geese to the area and is held in early October.
The origins of the Fennville Goose Festival can be traced back to the Fennville Chamber of Commerce, which came up with the idea to organize an event to celebrate the geese and promote the community. The festival was initially a one-day event but has since expanded to a four-day celebration.
The festival features a variety of activities and events for people of all ages. One of the main highlights is the Goose Festival Parade, which includes floats, marching bands, and local organizations. There are also live musical performances, arts and crafts vendors, food stands, and a beer tent.
For nature enthusiasts, the festival offers opportunities for bird watching and guided tours of the nearby Allegan State Game Area, where the geese can be seen in large numbers. There are also educational programs and presentations about the geese and their migration patterns.
Over the years, the Fennville Goose Festival has become a significant event for the community, attracting visitors from all over Michigan and beyond. It not only celebrates the natural beauty of the area but also serves as a platform to showcase local businesses and organizations.
The festival has continued to evolve and adapt to the changing times. In recent years, new additions have included a 5K race, a car show, and a carnival. The festival also partners with local schools and organizations to provide scholarships and support community projects.
The Fennville Goose Festival has become an integral part of the community's identity and a cherished tradition for residents and visitors alike. It is a celebration of nature, community spirit, and the unique heritage of Fennville, Michigan.
